Summary: The proposal of the present work was analyze the impact of the policy of human management of Escelsa (Centrais Elétricas do Espírito Santo S. A.) on the quotidian of the workers. The company studied sells electric energy for the state of Espírito Santo and was privatized in 1995, and, since then, has been passing through a downsizing process. Before analyzing the reengineering of Escelsa and its consequent working force reduction, the author presents the theory about mass production, welfare state, neoliberalism and lean-production. This work meant to establish the links between macroeconomic policies, inter-capitalist competition, human management policies and the way workers act and portrait themselves. Were made open interviews with six workers/former workers selected intentionally. The interview analyses showed different worker reaction to the same challenges imposed by the company human management policies. At one extreme there was one type of worker that accepted Escelsa´s goals as its own personal goals. At the other extreme there is a worker that question the company policies. Independent of the way they behave all the works find themselves submitted to a more intense work, a valorization of individualism, a real wage reductions and a instability about the maintenance of the job.
