Summary: This dissertation investigates the family and its social representations in the construction of the daily practices of administration in a company of drinks in the State of Espirito Santo. Considering the proposal, the central objective is to investigate, describe and analyze the representations of the family in the daily practices of administration, starting from the organizational dynamics built by the Kautsky family, owner of the referred company. The study advances a reflection on the dominant literature that emphasizes instrumental aspects on the study of family organizations and proposes a new approach for this study that emphasizes aspects returned for the symbolic dimension of these organizations. This case study proceeds in two moments. The first, based on the methodology of life history describes the owner’s path, emphasizing values of the family and the constitution and development of the company. The second identifies and analyzes the representations of the family in the daily practices of administration in that organization. As a result it is glimpsed an representation in transition along two generations on the administration of the company: of the "father's" image - severe, with wide authority, that benefits their children - for the "brother's" image - more comrade, that it is beside all and shares the authority. Starting from that premise, it is verified that those images of the family interact with the managers' daily practices that tend to certain informality, to the authoritarianism, to it "turns off fire", among others. Being like this, this dissertation contributes to the organizational theory in the measure in that it indicates new forms of approaches of the study about family organizations, emphasizes the methodology of the life history for a wide context of the research field and proposes the study of this phenomenon - representations of the family - in organizations that are not of family owned, that meaning public organizations, philanthropic organizations, cultural organizations, among others.
