Summary: This present paper focused on work situations in a glass processing company, studying a sector of glass that struggles uninterrupted to meet production goals and reduce nonconformities (losses). The research problem has been outlined in: How could the understanding of work situations involving the operators of an industry that constantly struggle to reach production goals and reduce nonconformities (losses)
contribute to the transformation of this work and organizational environment? The objective was to analyze aspects relevant to the work situations in a specific sector of a company that works with glasses located in Serra – Espírito Santo. This research is justified by the economic importance of the processing industries in Brazil, represented
here by the sector of glass processing, involving activities of great complexity and occupational risks, in addition to the fact that the glass industry have a strong dependence on the workers’ acquired knowledge over time. The relevance for organizational studies is because the research is based on Ergology and its main concepts, which refer to a multidisciplinary approach to work and to analyze it from the
perspective of the worker, who actually manages the variabilities of the productive processes. In order to produce the data a documentary survey was carried out, the direct observation of the activities in the operational sector of beneficiation for a period of two months, with generation of field diary, and five individual interviews with the
operators of this sector, and one with the production coordinator. The analysis of the material was made based on the analysis of content, and the categories of analyzes were defined a posteriori, as follows: a) The uses of onself for the benefit of the work; b) Hierarchical management: the lack of valorization of workers' knowledge; c) Dramatic: the incessant pursuit of production goals and loss reduction; and, d) Health
and safety in the processing of glasses. The analyzes provided evidence of the uses of themselves by the operators of the three automatic lines of the researched sector, which often renormalize their activities based on their individual and environmental perceptions and values, and on the collective knowledge of the medium in which they are inserted. Such renormalizations involve dramatic, due to the difficulties and the
challenges faced in the pursuit of the production goals and reduce nonconformities (losses) in an infidel environment, WHERE the organization of work is quite hierarchical;there is an appreciation of the fulfillment of orders and over-dimensioned goals in work processes that involve risks, and also surrounded by the lack of communication
between the different levels or recognition of the workers' knowledge.
